Mike Van Allen
Treasurer of the Randolph Democratic Committee
|
Michael Anthony Van Allen is a 52-year-old, science educator. He chairs the Science department at Shabazz High School in Newark, NJ. He is a labor leader and was recently re-elected by his peers to serve on the CASA executive board local #20- under the American Federation of School Administrators, AFL-CIO.
Born in Manhattan, he lived his formative years in Essex County, NJ. He was elected on the Essex County Committee as a district leader and became a Commissioner for the City of East Orange. His jobs took him from a local pharmacy as a high school student, to the town's health department after college graduation. He did medical research at St. Michael's Hospital in Newark, and worked as a Biochemist at Merck pharmaceuticals. He did his graduate work at Columbia University in Biochemistry. He taught Inorganic and Organic chemistry for Upsala college Nursing program and Biochemistry at UMDNJ.
A Mount Freedom resident, swimmer and an active member of the "Over the Hill" Randolph Grand Masters Softball Team; Mike was recently elected to the Morris County Committee as a leader for district #2. Mike is a conservative and an independent thinker who promotes family values and quality of life issues. His primary concerns are to conserve the character of Randolph and conservation of open-space- at reasonable property taxes for senior citizens on fixed-income. Michael states that "Major monetary issues that may effect property taxes should be voted on by the public via a referendum. Issues that raise property taxes should also raise property value such as public safety, traffic repair, quality of life issues, municipal services and continued support of our excellent public school system and precious children here in Randolph Township."
He looks forward to seeing and talking to more residents about more concerns and in more depth. Michael is excited about the idea of serving the fine citizens of Randolph as a town councilman. "I want to take this opportunity to thank the voters for my recent victory in the June, 2006/Primary elections." He already considers himself successful -in serving his community- by providing the great citizens of Randolph a choice in the November-General elections. Complete Biography>
