Dan Lynn

Dan Lynn is a 46 year old attorney and a partner in the law firm of Braff Harris and Sukoneck in Livingston. He lives on Rolling Ridge Road with his wife Cheryl and 2 children, Jessica and Michael.

Dan has been active in local politics, serving as the Randolph Democratic Chairman for the last 2 years. He also served for I year on the Randolph Town Council, in 2005. During his tenure, he supported efforts to control development, to preserve open space, to improve the parks and ball fields in town, to give Senior Citizens a new bus, and to provide police, firefighters and rescue workers with the tools and equipment that they need to do their jobs. He proposed initiatives to ban sexual predators from living near our public schools and playgrounds, and he also proposed legislation that would ban pay for play in the town (both measures which, incidentally, were opposed by Republicans on the Council.) Dan has a proven record of putting the interests of ALL of Randolph’s residents ahead of partisan political considerations.

Dan supports the local library. He opposes ANY building on Randolph Mountain and believes that it should be preserved. He also believes in preserving the quality and character of local neighborhoods, such as the Center Road area, and he believes that politicians should not sell their souls, or their votes, to developers and campaign contributors. He supports the hiring of additional police officers, a proposal that was requested by the police force and rejected by the current town council.

“I believe that as Randolph Residents, we are all in this together, and decisions at the local level should be made on the basis of what’s best for Randolph, not upon partisan political considerations. Too often, the republicans on the town council simply “rubber stamp” proposals made by their leadership, without discussion and without debate. I think that the local government should be open to multiple opinions and multiple points of view, so that everyone can be a part of the process.”

Along those lines, Dan believes that volunteerism and community service is vital and should be encouraged. “Participating in town, on a board or committee, should not depend on what party you belong to or who you contribute money to, or how “connected” you are to the leadership.”

Lastly, Lynn feels that the current town council has not been financially responsible. “Taxes have gone up every year, and the big problem is that the Republican majority fails to even see that as a problem. Yes, it is very hard to balance revenues and expenditures. Everybody expects a certain level of services in town, and those services have to be paid for. And yes, costs continue to go up, while growth in tax ratables such as new development has slowed. However, the 1st thing that must be done is to admit that there is a problem, which the Republicans have been unable to do. 2nd, the town must distinguish between “wants” and “needs”, just like everybody has to do in their own lives, and critically examine what is a want and what is a need.. We have to be willing to explore creative solutions such as shared services with other towns, Lastly, we could save thousands of dollars if we would simply eliminate pay to play and the practice of giving generous rewards to campaign contributors. How come the town’s attorneys and judges are given bigger percentage pay increases than our police officers? How come they are given increase, when there is no increase in the amount being budgeted to our senior citizens?”
